Multi-Factor Authentication has become a very common and very effective security-related trend in today’s IT world. Organizations all over the globe are leveraging this second layer of protection for more secure user sign-ins and transactions.

Due to the secure nature of Multi-Factor Authentication, it requires the highest level of administration power, such as an Office 365 Admin to enable and/or disable the Multi-Factor Authentication requirement. Often, organization’s help desk personnel need to repeatedly call upon Office 365 Administrators to manage Multi-Factor Authentication settings. Administrator’s would like to let a Support team member handle the request but are hesitant to hand over all of the other administrative capabilities that go along with these powerful credentials.

It’s not uncommon for larger organizations with thousands of users to have numerous misplaced, lost or stolen devices every day. That can be hundreds or even thousands of misplaced devices over the course of a year. That’s a whole lot of calls to the help desk, and by extension a whole lot of calls to the Office 365 Admin to temporarily disable or suspend Multi-Factor Authentication settings.

So how can administrators bypass being used for this task and safely outsource it to the help desk for handling? The answer is simple ……… with PowerScripts!

PowerScripts are a feature within VitalSigns that allows Senior administrators to automate PowerShell commands using secured, dedicated credentials. Roles authorized to access the PowerScripts feature can easily be turned on or off at any time by the Senior Administrator. To further enhance security and control, an audit trial is automatically generated each time someone attempts to or runs a script.

The Multi-Factor Authentication PowerScript is part of a continuously growing library of PowerShell commands within VitalSigns. The main function of the Multi-Factor Authentication PowerScript is to securely enable or disable Multi-Factor Authentication for individual users in the organization. In short, PowerScripts provide limited, and audit-able, delegated power to securely streamline management of Multi-Factor Authentication settings. Overall PowerScripts, provide that same limited, and audit-able, delegated power to securely streamline Office 365 administration as a whole. VitalSigns clients can create their own PowerScripts and add them to the growing library of PowerScripts within VitalSigns.
