As you know, Domino servers can have one or more mail.box files. But how do you know if your server needs another one? IBM says simple: just calculate the value of (Mail.MailBox.Accesses/Mail.MailBox.AccessConflicts) * 100. Seriously.
The result should be consistently under 2. If the value is greater than 2, your server could benefit from an additional mail.box file.
When was the last time you had a free moment to do that? I’d be willing to bet never. Especially if you have a dozen or more servers to watch over. VitalSigns calculates this value with each scan cycle, and calls the result the “MailBox Performance Index”.
The MailBox Performance Index is put into the VitalStatus database Mail Health view, as shown below, and also on the server document itself. So if you open the status document you will see the very clear text in red “This server would route mail faster if it had another Mail.box file.” Even a manager can understand that.
We put it into production at RPR Wyatt, and what do you know? azphxdom1 is my home server. So it’s personal. Time to talk with the boss….
