The Status Tab

See also: A Flash demo of the Status Tab in action.

VitalSigns provides current information about the status of your servers in many ways so you can get it how you want it. Other options for obtaining status include HTML, RSS, and AOL Instant Messenger. The status tab allows you to view the status details in one of two ways: Detail Grid or Small Icons.

The Detail Grid

The Detail Grid provides the most information. This unique overview screen provides color-coded collapsing sections that allow you to see more information on one screen (see callout box). The Status Tab is also available in HTML format for viewing in a browser. Hovering over an item brings up balloon help that explains the item in more detail.

Figure1: The category "Domino Server" is green because all the servers are OK

Figure 2: Hovering over a "Slow" server will provide details as to why the server is considered slow (in this case becasue it responded in 359 ms, but the target was 250ms)

How to interpret the "Detail Grid" of the Status Tab:
  • The Top-level category (i.e., Domino Server) is the device type.
  • Secondary categories depend on the device type; for a Domino server in a cluster the next category will be the cluster name
  • Black indicates that none of the devices under that category have been scanned yet
  • Green indicates that all of the devices under that category are OK
  • Red indicates that one or more devices under that category are in an Alert condition

The Small Icon View

The small icon view is best suited when you have a lot of devices that you are monitoring, and you want to get as much information as possible onto a single screen.
